applying housemanship in malaysia for medic fresh graduates

This post is dedicated to those who has just finished medical school especially those graduated abroad. There are several sites and blogs that i found helpful but here i will summarize and put it into numbered points to make it simple.

Here are 5 easy steps :)

1) Fill in the SPA8i form online at Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam (SPA) website:
http://www.spa.gov.my/

2) Contact SPA to book an interview (via phone/email/go to its office)

3) Download, fill in & send in the Borang 4: Permohonan untuk Pendaftaran Sementara, Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and Borang Maklumat Tambahan MMC.
http://efenem.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/mmc-daftar.pdf

4) Download, fill in & send in the borang Permohonan Jawatan Pegawai Perubatan, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM)

http://www.mediafire.com/?jqggmomhy2lifwo

use condom to prevent pregnancy, idiot.

It is really really really disturbing to read the news about baby dumping now and then. These 'unwanted' babies not only dumped into trash bins, left at the mosque, by the road side or in the toilet or any other unthinkable places, but also some of them killed unintentionally. Or intentionally! gosh. It really has come to the limit. That is too much.

But sadly, ironically, or stupidly our self-righteous community still in a state of denial. Most of us cry foul every time such heart-wrenching things make the news. Not to mention those which didn't make it to the news and remained unknown.

This is what happen when we let those not wanting to have babies, to get pregnant and give birth. It's that simple.

The questions that are worth to look into are: why are they committing unlawful pre-marital sex, why the unprotected one, why not resort to legal abortion, and why can't they just let the babies being taken care of and live?

Some of us might blame them, the ones who did it. But it's obviously not totally their fault, but ours! No thanks to the hardship ones have to go through to get married, the complicated and expensive wedding, and the stigma that young unwed mothers have to face.

I said earlier that we are in denial because some of us won't admit that the usage and promotion of protections e.g. condoms can reduce the number drastically. Compare Malaysia with any western country. Those countries openly allow free sex and we say it is a bad western culture. But with cases of baby-dumping on the rise, what kind of better culture we have here? From this comparison we can see that the aetiology of this epidemic is not from the so called free sex itself but the ignorance that wearing protection and practising safe sex cam cure this 'disease'.

Our self-conscious friends and family worry so much that condom will promote free sex, which they worry so much about, apparently more than the fact that many innocent lives being dumped and some even murdered by those heartless murderer!

it's a relieved that there are some quarters aware of this fact and also pushing for the promotion of the usage of condom although some are against it.

So dear friends, I think it's about time to put our idiocy aside and remind each other to wear protection to prevent the unwanted pregnancy. Yeah, there must be other solutions to tackle this as most of us think but to ignore this one is moronic.

Prevention is better than cure.

the malaysia-indonesia open debate

Like always, I was going for burger as dinner rather than.. another plate of rice. Tonight I cycled, out to a burger stall not really far from my house, alone, because my friend who I always have dinner with, he’s already started his tight diet programme. (haha)

Once there, the lady asked me, 'like always?' And I said yeah. She knew that I would always order a burger without chilli sauce, just mayo.

While waiting, I had a little chat with her husband who has worked in Malaysia for 15 years. He admired Malaysia very much, the place, the people and their working attitude. I’m glad he had a good time working in Malaysia.

But tonight a guy from the next shop interrupted our conversation by started asking, why Malaysian always treated Indonesian as a second class human? Wow what an intimidating question. He looked mad. I was shocked by his sudden anger lash-out, though it wasn’t my first time, really. But the guy who has worked in Malaysia defended and be in Malaysian side. Then there went a quite heated-up open debate regarding issues between both countries.

I’m not going to write here what were the exact points they made, just like the same boring points that came up like any other debates or writings about the Malaysia-Indonesia issues. The different is that the guys who defended Malaysia has worked in Malaysia for 15 years and the other guy has a sister still working in Malaysia as maid.

What impressed me is that their openness to such open debate. Though both are Indonesian, I don’t feel scared or threatened, because they actually just expressing their opinions and thoughts based on their experience and what they heard/ read. It's a healthy way of channelling ones' anger or dissatisfaction over something, and such open debate is actually a good thing.

At least it’s better than a lady in a car who lowered her car’s window while me and my friend on a bike next to her car, waiting for the traffic light to turn green, and she said in a harsh tone, ‘hoi Malaysia! Awas ya, kalo tertabrak dikit aku hajar kau!’. And we’re like... what the?

Okay now.. I’m going to eat my burger. It’s getting cold.

let's unite.

Hey, why some of you are still busy trying to divide us, to make us follow you and hate one another? Can we stop acting like we’re so different and start looking at how similar we are to each other.

We all human. And in Islam we are all same though we have different colours, cultures or size.

I understand we might have different views on almost everything. But can we stop it for a while. And work together for a more prosperous and developed nation. For the future. For our own children’s sake.

If you think we need a new and a better leader to govern and become the CEO of our country, do take part /contest in the election. And once the majority has made their decision, can you shut up for a while at least until next four years, for the next election. Stop talking already and start working.

Stop creating groups. Stop acting like we’re aliens to each other.

And since it’s Malaysia day tomorrow, I want to wish all Malaysians a happy Malaysia day!

31 August 2010

Happy birthday Malaysia!

It’s Malaysia Independence Day anniversary today. I want to take this opportunity to wish all Malaysians wherever you are a very happy and blessed merdeka day! There are so many things that we should be thankful for being born in land called Malaysia. For its peace, economy stability, political stability, and for the harmonious multiracial of its citizens.

There are of course lots of problems coming in our way unstoppably, but we managed to handle them wisely for the benefits of everyone. Be it internally or across the border with the outside world.

Just like the recent sparks with our neighbour. I think we have acted accordingly without turning the sparks into fire. We are brothers right? Muslims are brothers to each other. As written in al-Quran surah al-hujarat (49:10): “The believers are but a single brotherhood: so make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear Allah, that ye may receive Mercy.”

So in my opinion the true meaning of independence is actually how strong we obey/stick to the real teachings of Islam without being influenced by any other things. Nowadays we get on each other’s throat very easily ignoring the fact that we’re brothers, as we pursue our very own needs and importance.

Happy 53rd independence day! And be independent!

Malaysia-Indonesia

-->
The previous tensions have not even fully subsided yet, but now it seems to be heated up again. There was a demonstration by an extreme group calling themselves as bendera, in which human faeces being thrown to the Malaysian embassy. I’m honestly sad with the news. They also said that Malaysian companies here in Indonesia will be their target, to ask them to “pack up their business and go home”. What scared me the most is that they threatened to detain Malaysians on the streets and shave their heads before sending them back.

But I know they do not represent the whole mostly peace-loving Indonesians. I’ve been studying here for 4 years. They are many Indonesians that treated us Malaysian here nicely, putting aside all those tiffs between these two countries.

But of course there are people who hate Malaysian so much that it is obvious. But I honestly don’t blame them. Media here loves playing with the issue and sensationalizing it. Just like how they did to the celebrities. Most of the info they aired were merely baseless allegations and they played it again and again as it were something need to be planted deep in the brain. Hatred been planted.

Please people! Be you Malaysian or Indonesian, please handle with whatever crisis wisely. As in this latest case of sea-border trespassing or whatever, solve it accordingly, sit down and talk, show proofs to support your allegations. Most of us are Muslim. And a Muslim is brother to one another, right? And we are not allowed to prolong fight with each other more than 3 days.

And ironically it happens in the sacred month of Ramadan!

P/s: if somebody throws faeces at you, you give him flower instead. Or else you are just like him. don't' you think.

colourful Malaysia

-->

There are a lot of foreigners in Malaysia. Just get on any of the public transportation e.g. bus, light transit, etc and you may hear quite a number of different languages being spoken. Where some of them are tourists coming from euro or Middle East or just anywhere in the world, quite a large number of them are workers working in Malaysia.

Sometimes I feel like asking myself, where am I? But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I love seeing people coming from many parts of the world. Different colours, looks, styles and languages. All of them are coming here to experience Malaysian culture, lifestyle or places of interest.

When you see somebody that looks like a Malay or a Malaysian Chinese, or even Malaysian Indian, think again. Listen carefully to their language. Just now I saw a couple with a son sitting between them in the train. The husband looked like a Malay and her wife more like a (Malaysian) Chinese. Then when I heard them talking, to my surprise that they were talking a foreign language. It sounded like Thai, but not it. Maybe Cambodian or Vietnamese. Then there were another couple sitting beside me. I thought they’re Malays. But suddenly one of them took out a camera to capture a photo and they talked to each other in Indonesian. So they must be tourists from Indonesia. Then right in front of me were Arabs. Not far away were Caucasians not talking in English but in other European  language.

There were once I was asked by an Indian for direction. I thought that he was a Malaysian Indian that I gave the instruction in Manglish mixed with Malay. Then he looked confused and told me that he just arrived in Malaysia few days before that.

And nowadays you can simply see Africans everywhere. And most of them are students studying in Malaysia.

Without all those tourists and workers from outside, Malaysia is already a multicultural country consisting Malay, Chinese, Indians and a lot more other native tribes. We live next to each other, doing things together and sharing and visiting each other houses during major celebrations.

Being home for holiday (and being away during the rest of the time) really makes me appreciate more and thankful for living in such beautiful and colourful country. A country called Malaysia.

malaysia, i'm coming!

Yay (many of my posts are started with yays. haha)

This time I'm saying yay because I am going back to Malaysia soon!! Yeeha! I have already bought the ticket Medan -> Penang on 12th of June.

I've been staying here in Medan for 1 year and a half. Didn’t go back even though during the semester breaks due to insufficient money haha.

But now I’m going back. I just can’t wait. I was still single when I was home during the last time I went back which was somewhere in May 2007. And now I will be going back as somebody’s boyfriend. big deal. haha

Wow. I miss my home so much. I already forgot how does the fresh Malaysia's air smell like. I can say bye bye to the dusty Medan~ even though just for few weeks.

And I am so excited that I started to watch the visit Malaysia commercials on youtube haha

And, the excitement - it makes me somehow not yet realized that exams are actually around the corner. I’ve got to sit for lots of exam before flying back to wonderful Malaysia.

Malaysia. I’m coming back!
